How To Change Grid Size In Gimp

I went to view>and selected grid to better compare the placement of 2 items. The mesh was besides close though. So I went to Edit>Preferences>Default filigree and tried different numbers in the spacing setting and pressed ok after each try. The grid continues to wait the same! What am I doing incorrect?

There are 2 types of grid

Beginning
Filters > Render > Pattern > Grid
Lines are fatigued on the current layer and these lines get function of the image.

2nd
This grid is used with View > Show Grid and View > Snap to Filigree
This grid is not office of the paradigm and volition not Consign ie it remains in the xcf only.
Employ Edit > Preferences > Default Prototype > Default Grid to set the defaults when Gimp creates a new image.
Use Image > Configure Grid to alter the settings for the current prototype.

Note for those similar me who accept plenty of images opened, modified, and it would exist *actually* a PITA to restart Gimp:

You can select_all + copy + file New + paste.
The new image will employ the new Grid settings.

Gimp ergonomics...

Do this just if your image has only one layer (not mentioning selection, channels, and paths), otherwise yous'll lose work.

Simply you didn't read the remainder, to change the filigree for the current image, see Image ➤ Configure grid...
